The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the list of gubernatorial candidates ahead of the 2023 elections.
VANTAGE NEWS reports that the list showed that the ruling All Progressives Congress and the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party do not have candidates in some states.
The list showed that the PDP does not have a candidate in Ogun State while the All Progressives Congress does not have a candidate in Akwa Ibom State.
A total of 18 political parties fielded 837 candidates and their running mates for the 28 Governorship elections.
Also, 10,231 candidates will contest for 993 State Assembly seats.
There are two factions laying claim to the PDP governorship ticket in Ogun State after both conducted parallel primaries.
Ladi Adebutu and Segun Sowunmi emerged as candidates from each of the governorship primaries conducted during the parallel primaries.
VANTAGE NEWS reports that a federal high court sitting in Abeokuta and presided over by Justice O.O Oguntoyinbo nullified the entire PDP primaries in the state and ordered a fresh rerun within 14 days.
In Akwa Ibom State, INEC also failed to list any governorship candidate for the APC in Akwa Ibom State because its officials did not monitor the primary election although APC had chosen Akan Udofia as its candidate at a primary conducted on May 27.
