Reacting to the move, Soyinka said it’s distasteful for the group to condemn a man because of his age, stating that old age is not something to be condemned.
“I have listened to the lyrics of the chant by the National Association of Seadogs (the Pyrates Confraternity) intently and I am frankly appalled. I find it distasteful. I belong to a culture where we do not mock physical afflictions or disabilities,” Soyinka said.

Where was Wole Soyinka when Tinubu insulted Obidients by calling Labour a “mushroom” party, whose members “will labour till death”? Is that Pyrates song Soyinka called ‘distasteful’ as bad as wishing death on Labour Party members? Why didn’t Soyinka condemn Tinubu?#TableShaker

This Wole Soyinka, Patience Jonathan and Pyrates confraternity debacle just shows why legends should preferably die young at their peak. Give a legend enough time on earth and he'll muck up his own legacy. pic.twitter.com/aOsUGng9Oa
