The political camp of the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has resolved to reconcile with the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar if certain conditions are met.
Recall that Wike met with some leaders of the main opposition party at the Rivers State Governor’s lodge on Sunday over the matter.
The Rivers State Governor is not happy with Atiku and the entire leadership of the party over the decision not to pick him ad the party’s vice presidential candidate.
A source told Premium Times that the meeting was centred around resolving the dispute between Wike and Atiku over the selection of the Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate.
The source noted that Governor Wike’s group insisted that the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu, must step down to allow someone from the South to take over the party’s leadership.
The group, while insisting it would only meet with Atiku when Ayu resigns his position as the party’s national chairman, condemned the leadership positions of the main opposition party for favouring the Northern zone.
The source said, “How can a party that is systematically one-sided sell itself in the South?
“How can we work for a presidential candidate who is already sidelining other leaders who are not in his camp and expect that he would change when he becomes president?
“The candidate has not demonstrated good faith at all. The election is for Atiku to lose. If he wants to win, he knows what to do. The ball is in his court. We were clear at the meeting that he alone can decide if he wants to win or lose the election.”
