The Independent National Electoral Commission has issued a certificate of return to the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ademola Adeleke.

Adeleke was declared winner of the 16th July gubernatorial election in Osun State by INEC on Sunday.

The National Commissioner for INEC, supervising Osun, Ogun and Oyo states, Prof. Kunle Ajayi, presented the certificate to Adeleke and the deputy governor-elect, Kola Adewusi.

The electoral body presented the certificate 72 hours after Adeleke defeated the incumbent governor, Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress.

Adeleke’s superstar musician nephew, Davido had on Tuesday called out the electoral body over what seemed like a delay in issuing the PDP candidate his certificate. INEC had also in a reply to Davido emphasized that the law gave it 14 days window to present the certificate to the winner of the election.

Reacting through his Twitter page after his uncle had collected the certificate of return on Wednesday, Davido apologised to INEC for his earlier outburst.

He tweeted: “You do well @inecnigeria no vex for yesterday”.

Adeleke polled 403, 371 votes to defeat Oyetola who gathered 375, 027 votes.

While accepting the certificate at a brief ceremony held at Osun INEC head office in Osogbo, the governor-elect dedicated his victory in the governorship election to the memory of his late elder brother, Senator Isiaka Adeleke and the people of the state.

This is coming a few hours after the Court of Appeal sitting in Akure ruled in favour of Adeleke as the candidate of the PDP.

Recall that Dotun Babayemi who contested in the PDP governorship primaries went to court to challenge the validity of the primaries conducted by the national leadership that produced Sen Adeleke as the party’s candidate.
