Kuje Prison Attack: Police Speak On Re-Arrest, Search For Escaped Inmates

The Nigeria Police Force has stated that most of the inmates that escaped from the Medium Custodial Centre in Kuje, Abuja during the attack launched by the Islamic State West Africa Province on Tuesday night have been recaptured.

According to the NPF, officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) joined in the search and recapturing of most of the escaped inmates.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, while speaking on the attack, told The Punch that the police in collaboration with the Correctional Service has re-arrested most of the fleeing inmates.

He added that the police have commenced an investigation into the attack and police officers are part of the security operatives on the ground at the scene of the incident.

Adejobi said, “We are working with the Correctional Service and we have been able to re-arrest the fleeing inmates. We have done our deployment and we are still on the ground so that we will be able to have a detailed investigation into the incident.

“Our specialized units have been sent to the place to get more facts concerning the incident. We are working round the clock to make sure we get to the root of the matter.

“Whether this event or not, we will always fly our helicopters for area surveillance. Our pilots will still work to assist in area surveillance to see where the inmates will be hiding.”
