Doyin Okupe Withdraws As Peter Obi’s Vice-Presidential Candidate, Labour Party To Announce New Running Mate

A former presidential aide, Doyin Okupe has formally withdrawn as the running mate to  Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 election, Peter Obi.

Vantage News reports that the Labour Party would announce a substantive running mate as soon as possible to occupy the vacancy created by Okupe’s resignation.

Doyin Okupe announced his withdrawal in a post on his Twitter page on Thursday.

The former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, said he has submitted his withdrawal letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He wrote: “This afternoon I submitted my withdrawal letter from the position of the Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party to INEC.

“A replacement will be announced by the national chairman of the party shortly. I feel greatly blessed to have been part of the foundation of success for the Labour Party.“
