The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar has declared July 9 as Eid Al-Adha for the year 2022.
In a statement issued late on Wednesday by the National Moonsighting Committee, the monarch charged Muslims in the country to intensify prayers during the period.
The statement reads, “Eidul Adha will be on Saturday, 10th Zul-Hijjah 1443H (9th July 2022) In Sha Allah.
“His Eminence, The Sultan, hereby calls upon the Muslim Ummah to intensify efforts in acts of worship during the first ten days of the blessed month of Zul-Hijjah.”
VANTAGE NEWS reports that the Eid al-Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice is celebrated to honour the tale of the prophet Ibrahim and his willingness to sacrifice his son to obey God’s command.
Muslims across the world celebrate by attending special prayers held at various mosques and Islamic centres.
