The lawyer leading Nnamdi Kanu’s legal team, Ifeanyi Ejiofor has stated that the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is not receiving proper medical attention in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
Ejiofor stated that the health condition of Kanu was deteriorating due to the poor medical attention he was receiving in DSS custody where he is facing trial for treasonable felony.
He made this known after visiting the IPOB leader on Thursday in a statement obtained by VANTAGE NEWS.
The lawyer, however, expressed optimism that the court will address the issue and direct the DSS to grant Kanu access to his private doctor for an independent medical examination.
Ejiofor said, “We also observed with dismay, as Onyendu’s impeccable account revealed, that he is not receiving proper medical attention in the custody of the DSS as his health condition is gradually deteriorating.
“This will be addressed in court, particularly in view of the DSS persistent contempt of the order of court directing them to allow Onyendu access to his private doctor for an independent medical examination to ascertain his current health condition. This is also a right guaranteed under the Anti-Torture Act.”
