The governors of Kaduna and Ondo States, Nasir El-Rufai and Rotimi Akeredolu, on Wednesday, became the biggest losers in the leadership crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This comes after President Muhammadu Buhari’s letter issued on Wednesday endorsed the chairmanship of Buni and asked the Yobe State Governor to take charge of the party’s national convention set to hold March 26.
Recall that El-Rufai had heavily criticized Buni, accusing him of colluding with some fifth columnists in the party to secure a court order to stop the party’s convention from taking place as planned.
Governor El-Rufai had also claimed that Buhari sanctioned the removal of Buni and announced the Governor of Niger State, Abubakar Bello as the new chairman of the caretaker committee.
Akeredolu of Ondo State had also openly backed attempts to sack Buni, describing the other governors backing Buni as fraudsters.
VANTAGE NEWS reports that Buni immediately returned to Nigeria from his trip abroad when the letter by Buhari expressing support for him was made public.
