The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have reacted to the ruling by Justice Inyang Ekwo removing the Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi.
Expectedly, the APC in Ebonyi State rejected the judgement, describing it as an abuse of the constitution. Chairman of the party in the state, Stanley Okoro-Emegha, while reacting, said the presiding judge erred in his judgement.
Okoro-Emegha stated that there was already subsisting judgement of a High Court in Abakaliki, and also in Zamfara State which ruled that a serving governor or his deputy could not be sacked from office on account of their defection to another political party.
Similarly, the state Publicity Secretary of the APC, Ogbuatu Chidi Simba, in a statement made available to VANTAGE NEWS described the ruling as an attempt by the PDP to distract the administration of Governor Umahi.
On the other hand, the PDP welcomed the ruling and had also named a replacement for Umahi and his Deputy.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja after the ruling, the PDP National Chairman, Ayu said, “After due consultations with other colleagues, we are happy to inform you that for the position of governor, the party, after due consultations with stakeholders in Ebonyi State, is putting forward honourable Iduma Igariwe as the new governor,” Ayu said.
“For position of deputy governor, the party is putting forward Mr Fred Udogwu.”
