Uncertainty has beclouded the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State over who will emerge as its governorship candidate in the July 16 election, as two factions of the party are holding parallel primaries today.
The PDP had slated its governorship primaries in Osun State for today, Tuesday, February 8, 2022.
The two factions are led by Wale Ojo’supported by Soji Adagunodo, the party Deputy National Chairman in the South-West, while the other faction is led by Sunday Bisi supported by Senator Ademola Adeleke.
The two camps were laying claims to the chairmanship position of the party in the state.
While supporters, as well as delegates of the Ojo-led faction which is also backed by former governor of the state Olagunsoye Onyilola, were at the Women and Children Development Initiative Foundation, Osogbo Centre for the primary, the Bisi faction was currently holding its primary at the Osogbo City Stadium.
The party’s 2018 governorship candidate, Ademola Adeleke, is coming up against Prince Dotun Babayemi for the same ticket.
However, there was a heavy security presence at the WOCDIF Centre and Osogbo City Stadium, the venues of the parallel primaries.
Akin Ogunbiyi, Dele Adeleke and Fatai Akinbade had earlier announced their withdrawal from the race on Monday night.
As of the time of filing this report, both factions have finished casting votes for the primaries and are currently counting the votes.
