A High Court sitting in Osogbo the Osun state capital has rejected the bail applications filed for all the defendants arraigned in connection with the death of a Master’s Degree student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Timothy Adegoke.
The court explained that the health reasons that the applications were based on could not be relied on as the defendants’ health could not be said to be threatened.
The court had earlier dismissed a bail application of the owner of Hilton Royal Hilton, Ile-Ife, Dr. Ramon Adedoyin.
Adedoyin and six others were arrested in connection with Timothy Adegoke’s death.
They had been arraigned and remanded till Monday for ruling on their bail applications.
Although the court observed that the charges pressed against Adedoyin were bailable, it noted that they were serious felony charges that could attract jail term.
Justice Adepele Ojo, while ruling on the bail applications of other six defendants namely; Adedeji Adesola, Magdalene Chiefuna, Adeniyi Aderogba, Oluwale Lawrence, Oyetunde Kazeem and Adebayo Kunle, dismissed the applications.
Timothy Adegoke was reportedly killed after lodging at the Hilton Hotels and Resorts, Ile Ife, in November last 2021.
The police arrested Ramon Adedoyin, the hotel owner, and six other members of his staff and transfered them to Abuja for prosecution.
But the deceased’s family lawyer, however, insisted that that the case be transfered to Osun State, where the crime was committed.
