The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola and his political godfather Bola Ahmed Tinubu may be heading for political warfare concerning the upcoming governorship election in Osun state.
Any doubt in the soured relationship between the two longtime political allies might have been put to bed an outburst by Aregbesola.
The former Osun State governor on Monday accused Tinubu, a national leader of the All Progressives Congress of betraying the trust he had in him.
He lamented Tinubu’s involvement and indolence towards the poor governance of the incumbent Osun Governor Gboyega Oyetola.
Aregbesola alleged that Tinubu and former APC interim chairman and ex-governor of Osun State, Bisi Akande, foisted Oyetola on the people against the popular will.
Disapproving the development, the minister declared that enough is enough for the politics of godfatherism and enthronement by treacherous leaders who equated themselves to the status of a god.
It is understood that Aregbesola’s outburst is a result of ongoing controversies in the APC ahead of the party’s governorship primaries on Saturday.
Aregbesola is understood to be leading an APC faction in the state and has been at loggerhead with his successor who has received Tinubu’s backing to govern the state for a second term.
According to Aregbesola, the incumbent governor had refused to consolidate on his eight-year achievements.
The Minister, therefore, threw his weight behind a former Secretary to the State Government, Moshood Adeoti, in Saturday’s governorship primary, urging party members in Osun to support Adeoti.
Noting that the incumbent governor had deviated from the true tenets of the APC. Aregbesola also accused those at the helms of affairs of jettisoning true democracy and the principles which the party and its heroes stand for.
Giving an instance, Aregbesola said that just as ex-Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, was rejected by APC members in 2019 for working against the laid down rules, the same fate will befall Oyetola.
VANTAGE NEWS reports that Aregbesola made the statements in the Ijebu Jesa area of the state while addressing members of the APC ahead of Saturday’s primary polls.
Some of the aspirants gearing up for the APC primary include the incumbent governor, Oyetola; former Deputy Speaker of House of Representatives, Yusuff Lasun; and former Secretary to the State Government, Adeoti; who just made his way back to the ruling APC in June 2020, from the Action Democratic Party.
