President Muhammadu Buhari has said that Nigeria has passed the stage of coups for good.
Buhari, made the statement following the series of coups d’état in the West African sub-region in the past two years.
Speaking on Monday at a dinner in honour of the 2022 Committee of Business, Political, Media and Civil Society Leaders, held at his residence at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Buhari said there is no cause for alarm because such cannot happen in Nigeria.
Buhari’s message was contained in a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina.
The President was responding to concerns by Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, on the wave of coups in Mali, Guinea, and Burkina Faso.
The statement was titled, ‘Next administration will inherit a stable democracy, revamped security forces, President Buhari pledges.’
“Nigeria has passed through that stage for good,’’ Buhari said.
