Global human rights group, Amnesty International has called on the Lagos State government to investigate the incidents that led to the death of Sylvester Oromoni, a student of Dowen College whose death has been generating angry reactions.
VANTAGE NEWS reports that a cousin of late Sylvester Oromoni, Perrie, had taken to social media to lament Sylvester’s death, stating that the deceased mentioned some fellow students who beat him up because of his refusal to join a cult group.
However, the school later came up with a press release denying that such happened in the school.
In a tweet on Saturday, Amnesty International revealed that Sylvester would have been celebrating his birthday today.
Amnesty International tweeted, “Today, 4 Dec. 2021, Sylvester Oromoni would have been celebrating his birthday. The Lagos State authorities must investigate the incidents leading to Sylvester’s death and ensure no child goes through what he endured. Schools must be places of safety.
“Amnesty International calls on the Lagos state government to promptly, thoroughly and impartially investigate the death of Sylvester Oromoni and ensure that those found culpable are prosecuted and punished.
