The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in today’s governorship election in Anambra State, Valentine Ozigbo, has appealed to the Independent National Election Commission to extend the voting period due to slow pace of accreditation.

It took Ozigbo more than necessary minutes to get accredited before he was able to cast his vote in his Amesi community because of the delay it took the machine to accredit him.

Speaking after casting his vote, the PDP flagbearer said he was worried that it took him that number of minutes to cast his vote.

He told newsmen, “I was hoping that I will come and just cast my vote but it wasn’t to be. It got to a point that network actually failed, we had to improvise, if we couldn’t find that solution, I wonder what would have happened. So imagine those in remote location where there may be even poor network. So we need to make sure we recognise those peculiarities. What that means is that we need to extend the voting time so that we don’t allow people who are eligible not to cast the votes, it will be unfortunate.

“So I am not only commenting on the situation, I am by this appealing to INEC and to the stakeholders to exercise patience and ensure that the right people who have all the authentication cast their votes, that’s the only way we can truly ensure that this election will be by the greater majority.”
