UPDATED: Many Trapped As 21-storey Building Collapses In Lagos

A 21-storey building has collapsed in Lagos State, with many people feared to be trapped inside.

The building said to be under construction, is located at off Alexander way, Gerrard Road in Ikoyi Lagos State.

It is not yet clear the number of casualties from the building collapse or how many people that are trapped.

Nobody has been rescued as at the time of filing this report, but it is understood that rescue operation is on the way.

Three persons have been rescued from the rubble of the collapsed building by volunteers and emergency agencies on the ground.

The rescued victims have since been rushed to an undisclosed hospital for medical attention.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, has arrived at the scene of the incident.

Four dead in Ikoyi collapsed building

No fewer than four have been confirmed dead and their bodies recovered from the collapsed building while effort is ongoing to ensure more people are rescued as of the time of filing this report.

This was disclosed by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, who spoke to newsmen when he visited the scene of the incident.

However, he could not ascertain the cause of the collapse, as he said it should be left to technical experts.
