The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday said next month’s gubernatorial election in Anambra State would hold as planned despite the recent spate of killings and insecurity in the state.

VANTAGE NEWS reports that the state has in the past weeks experienced unrest owing to the unscrupulous activities of unknown gunmen.

The headquarters of INEC and the offices of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) have been razed by the gunmen operating in the state.

However, Festus Okoye, Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee of the electoral body said the commission is making security arrangements to ensure the election holds as planned.

“As far as the commission is concerned, we are proceeding with the election. We are seriously preparing for the exercise. In the next few days, we are going to deliver the non-sensitive materials meant for the election. So, preparation is on top gear on the part of INEC and we are going ahead with the election,” he said.
