A former Special Adviser on Media to Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, Salihu Tanko Yakasai has told the Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has no intention of zoning the presidency to the South East.
Yakasai said this on Friday while featuring as a guest on Arise Television’s “The Morning Show.”
VANTAGE NEWS had reported that Umahi upon his defection to the APC said he left the Peoples Democratic Party because the opposition party has no plans of zoning the presidency to the South East.
Umahi had also on different occasions suggested that the South East stands the best chance of getting the 2023 presidential ticket from the APC than any other geopolitical zone.
However, speaking on Friday, the son of the founding member of Arewa Consultative Forum and elder statesman, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, said APC will zone the presidency to the South West.
He listed Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, APC chieftain, Bola Tinubu as well as Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi as the potential presidential candidates from the South West.
Yakasai said, “Umahi should tell us if APC has promised him and other governors from his region if they are going to give power to them in 2023.
“If his reason for decamping is that PDP is not going to give power to the South-East, then, has there been any assurance by the APC that they are going to give power to a candidate from the South-East?
“That is a question that should be put to him (Umahi) because as far as I am concerned, I have not seen any indicator that APC is going to field any candidate from the South-East, to be frank, and candid.”
