Yoruba rights activist, Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho is reportedly seeking asylum in Benin Republic, the country where he was captured on Monday by the International Criminal Police Organisation.
Igboho is desperately wanted by the Department of State Services in Nigeria, with an international arrest warrant hanging around his neck.
He is also facing immigration-related offences in Cotonou follwoing his arrest at the Cadjèhoun Airport where he was scheduled to catch a flight to Germany with his wife, Ropo.
Igboho is set to spend the weekend in a police cell in Cotonou but his wife, Ropo was on Thursday uncoditionally released by the Cour De’appal De Cotonou as there were no charges against her.
He is being tried for migration-related issues after he was allegedly caught with a fake Beninese passport at the point of his departure to Germany through an Air France flight.
VANTAGE NEWS learnt that Igboho who already applied for asylum in Germany is seeking same in Benin Republic after his arrest.
It was gathered that Benin Republic is on the verge of bowing to pressure by dropping the migration-related offences brought against Igboho over alleged forgery of passport.
