Death by hanging has been prescribed as the punishment for bandits, kidnappers, and informants in Niger State.
The state House of Assembly, on Tuesday, passed the death penalty by hanging into law, warning that anyone found guilty will be executed publicly.
According to the lawmakers, the punishment was in the recommendation made by the Committees on Security and Intelligence and Judicial Matters during the presentation of the Committee report.
Chairman of the committee, Hon. Bello Ahmad, who represents Agwara Constituency said informants were included because of the role they play in the activities of the bandits and kidnappers terrorising the state.
The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Bawa Wuse expressed optimism that the law will facilitate an end to banditry and kidnapping in the state when the governor, Sani Bello, assents to it.
