Senate President, Ahmad Lawan has asked the senate panel to screen Lauretta Onochie, an aide to President Muhammadu Buhari for confirmation as a commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Onochie’s nomination by Buhari eight months ago generated opposition by members of the public who argue that she is a registered member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
However, it appears Lawan cares less about the views of Nigerians on Onochie’s political affiliation to the APC as he has ordered that she be screened alongside 5 other nominees.
See reactions below:
Lauretta Onochie has no business being the INEC commissioner.
She's partisan and that alone disqualifies her!
It's like telling a known Arsenal fan to be the referee in a match between Arsenal and Manchester United.
Do we have a rule of law anymore in this country?

Laureta Onochie as INEC Commissioner is as wrong as wrong can be. She is APC member. If this is allowed then expect Garba Shehu as INEC chairman

On what basis is the Senate considering Lauretta Onochie, a Buhari’s Aide as an INEC Commisioner? Please educate me.

The decision of Ahmed Lawan to screen Lauretta Anochie for the INEC Executive role is another affirmation that d ruling party handles d remote of the Independent Electoral body. What happens to d constitution which stipulates nonpartisan statue for officials of d Electoral body?

If the President has taken leave of his common sense to appoint his aide as an INEC National Commissioner, how are you as the Senate going along with him on that?

@NGRSenate the request for Lauretta Onochie to be made INEC commissioner should be dead on arrival! 🔨 Stop playing with the future of Nigerians. She is biased, partisan, incredibly inept and viciously unhinged!
Reduce the level of disguise please! 🔒

When @MBuhari appointed his media aide Lauretta about 8mths ago, Nigerians condemned the appointment and urged the @NGRSenate to decline her confirmation. It's in our collective interest to resist this appointment. The independence of INEC must protected despite its imperfections
