The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed that 11 persons died during Saturday’s attack on Igangan community, Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo State allegedly carried out by Fulani assailants.
VANTAGE NEWS reports that suspected Fulani gunmen had invaded the town late Saturday night on motorcycles, and allegedly opened fire on unsuspecting citizens.
The attackers also set some buildings ablaze.
In a statement on Sunday, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Adewale Osifeso, said that a total of 11 people, including some of the assailants were confirmed dead in the incident.
Osifeso added that the Palace of the Asigangan of Igangan Town, a number of buildings and a filling station were razed by the attackers.
“Intelligence and Tactical apparatuses, consisting of Police Mobile Force personnel, Patrol units and other tactical teams in concert with Local Hunters and Vigilance Group from the community were deployed to forestall further breakdown of law and order in the area,” Osifeso said.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, Ngozi Onadeko who commiserated with families of the deceased, urged the people to seek justice through the law.
