200 Students Kidnapped From Islamic School In Niger

Armed bandits on Sunday, kidnapped over 200 students from an Islamic school in Niger state.

The Niger state Police Command in a statement said that gunmen on motorcycles attacked the town of Tegina, in the Rafi local government area of the state, at approximately 4:30pm.

According to the statement, the bandits started “shooting indiscriminately and abducted a yet to be ascertained number of children at Salihu Tanko Islamic school.”

VANTAGE NEWS learnt that one person was shot dead while another was critically injured during the attack by the bandits that stormed the school in motorbikes.

Secretary to the Niger State Government, Ahmed Matane, said the number of the abducted students had yet to be ascertained.

“Yes, there was an attack at the Islamiyya school, but we do not yet have the exact number of students that were abducted. We are in touch with parents in the area to know those whose children were abducted,” he said.

The abduction comes barely 24-hours after student’s of Greenfield University were released by bandits.
