Farouk Yahaya, was on Thursday appointed as the new Chief of Army Staff by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Until his appointment, Yahaya was the General Officer Commanding 1 Division of the Nigerian Army and the theatre commander of a military counter-terrorism unit in the North East.
He was also a former commandant of Operation Lafiya Dole in the North East.
Yahaya schooled at the Nigerian Defence academy.
Yahaya, 56, who hails from Sokoto State is of Regular Course 37 of the Nigerian Defence Academy.
