Coach of France, Didier Deschamps, has named a strong 26-man squad for next month’s Euro tournament.
Real Madrid forward, Karim Benzema returns to the squad after a six-year absence over unresolved issues with the French Football Association.
Notable absentee in the squad is Manchester United forward, Anthony Martial.
Explaining his decision to drop Martial, Deschamps said he was unwilling to risk taking the forward who has been out of action for two months to the tournament.
He said, “Anthony Martial would have been here but he isn’t available.
“His condition does not allow it.”
Commenting on the decision to include Benzema, the coach said, “We (Deschamps and Benzema) met, we spoke at length and I then thought very hard and came to make this decision.
“I needed this chat, he needed this chat. I don’t want to make this a specific case. As national team boss, I’ve to always look beyond my personal case.
“My responsibility is important, but it’s bigger than me.”
