There was pandemonium in the late hours of Tuesday as gunshots were heard by residents of Owerri, the Imo State capital.
Owerri has been a hot zone since the jailbreak that led to the escape of hundreds of inmates from the Owerri Correctional Centre.
Unknown gunmen had also attacked the State Police Headquarters, setting vehicles ablaze.
An Owerri resident told VANTAGE NEWS that he started hearing heavy gunshots last night around 9pm.
Another resident who chose the condition of anonymity told our correspondent that the gunshots were fired by security operatives trying to restore peace in the state.
