The Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Callistus Onaga has reportedly suspended the Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu Nigeria, Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka for one month.
VANTAGE NEWS learnt that Mbaka was suspended over his political escapades and the recent clashes with President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to a report by Peoples Gazette, Mbaka’s suspension comes as his political escapades continue to overshadow his theological obligations on a scale that nurtures unending concerns amongst his senior clerics.
Mbaka was reportedly asked to proceed on suspension with effect from May 3 after being summoned by Bishop Onaga, who warned that his conduct was smearing the image of the church.
His supporters had stormed the Catholic Cathedral in Enugu in protest over the whereabouts of the controversial priest after he failed to show up for adoration on Wednesday, VANTAGE NEWS reports.
Mbaka has been in the news after he called for the resignation or impeachment of Buhari over rising insecurity and failing economy.
The Special Adviser to the president on Media and Publicity, Shehu Garba had in response, blasted the cleric, accusing him of being bitter over the refusal of Buhari to give him contracts.
Mbaka who denied the allegations of contract racketeering, said he had no personal gains from the contractors as he only took the expatriates that proffered solution to the myriads of Nigeria’s challenges to the president.
VANTAGE NEWS learnt that Bishop Omaha had to step in to put an end to the issue that was already bringing disrepute to the church.
Although Mbaka’s Adoration Ministry is an independent congregation that does not fall directly under the main church’s control, the Bishop reserves the right to suspend a priest from eucharistic celebrations.
Inside sources accuse Mbaka of inciting his followers against the Bishop following his suspension.
That was why his followers, some of who without evidence claimed the cleric was kidnapped by the Bishop stormed the Holy Ghost cathedral in protest, blocking roads and destroying some properties inside the cathedral.
