VANTAGE NEWS reports that the former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin has been found guilty on all charges in the murder of George Floyd.

Floyd’s death led to months of demonstrations against police brutality in many American cities.

The verdict which took the jury less than a day was read late Tuesday afternoon in downtown Minneapolis.

Chauvin was found guilty on all three of the criminal counts of second-degree murder, second-degree manslaughter and third-degree murder that he was facing.

The 45-year-old former police officer was handcuffed and taken into custody immediately after Hennepin County Judge Peter Cahill read the jury’s decision.

Video footage showed Floyd, 46, screaming that he couldn’t breathe as Chauvin pinned him to the street, his knee on Floyd’s neck for over nine minutes.

Prosecutors argued it was an intentional act that directly led to Floyd’s death, however, Chauvin’s legal defense team rested on the idea that other factors led to Floyd’s death.
