The Governors of the Southeast, on Sunday, launched a security outfit codenamed EBUBEAGU
EBUBEAGU was launched on Friday after a meeting between the governors and stakeholders held in Imo State.
There has been calls for the governors of the region to react swiftly to the rising insecurity in the region.
Present at the meeting were the governors of Anambra, Willie Obiano; Abia, Okezie Ikpeazu; Ebonyi, David Umahi; Imo, Hope Uzodinma; and Enugu, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
Also present at the meeting were Navy and Air Force Commanders, the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, some members of Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohaneze Ndigbo, and other stakeholders.
In a tweet, the Imo State government confirmed the new regional security outfit, EBUBEAGU, saying, “South-East Governors set up the South-East joint security outfit code named EBUBEAGU.”
The development comes a year after the governors of Southwest established a regional security outfit codenamed Amotekun Corps.
