Man Stabs 98-Year-Old Woman To Death In Nsukka Community, Says She Was A Witch


A 98-year-old woman, Oyibo Ogidi, has been stabbed to death in her Ovoko, Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State residence by a man identified as Chinedu Ugwueze.

VANTAGE NEWS learnt that Ugwueze and his accomplice, Tobechukwu Attamah (now at large) stormed the home of the childless nonagenarian before stabbing her having hit her head with a rod.

Various sources told our correspondent that Ugwueze confessed that he committed the dastardly act because the woman was causing setback in the community through the practice of witchcraft.

Ugwueze, who also confessed to the murder of a man in his fifties, Joseph Ogbonna, in the community in April 2020, was handed over to the police after he was apprehended courtesy of a joint security effort involving a local vigilante group, the traditional ruler and other concerned individuals.

VANTAGE NEWS learnt that Ugwueze ran to Okpuje, a neighbouring community after committing the murder.

A source who spoke on the condition of anonymity told our correspondent that Ugwueze’s excuse for taking the life of the woman is unfounded.

According to the source, Ugwueze killed Oyibo in order to dispossess her of a huge sum of money she got from the sale of a family land, adding that the suspect started living lavishly after the death of the woman who was the oldest in their clan.

It was learnt that the family decided to give the deceased woman some percentage of the money gotten from the sale of the family land since she did not marry out of the family.

Ugwueze ran to Okpuje after learning that the community has intensified efforts to unravel the mystery behind the gruesome murder of Oyibo.

It was in Okpuje that he was apprehended by some members of the community that volunteered to go in search of him.
