A 43-year-old man, Muhammad Abba, has been arrested by the Katsina State Police Command for allegedly looting shoes from people’s shops during the the fire that engulfed Katsina Central Market on Monday.
This was disclosed bu the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Gambo Isah, while addressing newsmen on Tuesday.
According to Isah, 33 other persons suspected to have looted shops during the fire were also arrested.
Isah, who revealed that Abba looted seven pairs of women shoes during the incident, added that it was Abba’s wife that reported his husband to the police after trying in vain to get her husband to return he shoes.
He frowned at those that ceased the opportunity presented by the unfortunate incident to loot trader’s wares.
Isah said, “It is unfortunate that these people were busy looting people’s property during the disaster.
“We have reports that some people are still in possession of such looted items, particularly within Katsina metropolis.
“I am using this medium to call on the residents to report such hoodlums to the nearest Police station for necessary action.”
Isah added that the police will prosecute all those arrested.
