The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has expressed the need to weed out what he called the bad eggs in the Nigeria Police Force to stop the bad name they attract to the security outfit.
Gbajabiamila spoke in Abuja on Thursday while declaring open, a public hearing on the Police Service Commission Act (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill 2020 and the National Institute for Police Studies (Establishment) Bill 2020.
The Speaker said while there are many good officers and men of the NPF, the few bad ones are creating problems for the outfit.
The PSC Act amendment bill was birthed through the recent nationwide #EndSARS protests, in which the House has proposed various reforms in the police system.
Those in attendance at the event include the Minister of Police Affairs, Mohammed Dingyadi; Chairman, PSC, DIG Musiliu Smith (retd.); Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu; and representatives of the service chiefs.
Earlier in his opening remarks, Chairman of the committee, Usman Kumo, encouraged the stakeholders to make their positions known, so as to guide the lawmakers on the proposed law.
