Maj.-General Babagana Monguno (retd), the National Security Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari has said some funds meant for the purchase of arms went missing under the leadership of the immediate past service chiefs.
In an interview with BBC Hausa on Friday, Monguno expressed hope that Buhari will investigate to find out what happened to the missing funds.
He said, “No one knows what happened to the money but by God’s grace, the president will investigate to find out whether the money was spent and where the arms went.”
Recall that Buhari in January, sacked the ex-service chiefs that include; Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Olonisakin; Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas; and Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar.
During the interview, the NSA also added that the new service chiefs have not seen any of the arms that the funds were supposed to be used to procure.
The new service chiefs include; Major-General Leo Irabor, Chief of Defence Staff; Major-General I. Attahiru, Chief of Army Staff; Rear Admiral A.Z Gambo, Chief of Naval Staff; and Air-Vice Marshal I.O Amao, Chief of Air Staff.
