Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has said that targeting only girls for abduction calls for a serious concern.
Atiku, who was reacting to the abduction of only female students of Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation in Igabi LGA, Kaduna State, wondered when the latest trend of school abductions will come to an end.
In a tweet, the 2019 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), expressed fear that kidnapping only girls will pose a serious challenge to the north still struggling to empower women.
He said, “A situation where only girl students—an already vulnerable group that is playing catch-up in the North, is specifically targeted for abduction raises serious concerns.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the affected students’ families, even as I urge that no resources should be spared to secure their release. The question is: how long shall we continue with this situation?” Atiku asked.
