The University of Ibadan (UI) has emerged as the highest ranked university in the latest Times Higher Education 2021 World University ranking.
Other Nigerian universities ranked after UI include the Lagos State University (LASU), the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Covenant University, University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) and Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (OAU)
UI, LASU and UNILAG made it to the list of the top 800 universities globally, while Covenant, UNN and OAU were ranked outside the top 800.
However, South Africa and Egypt dominated the African continent.
The University of Cape Town and the University of Pretoria, both in South Africa, were ranked first and second on the continent while the American University in Cairo, Egypt was also ranked among the top in Africa.
Oxford University in England retained top spoty for the fifth year running while the California Institute of Technology in the United States and Cambridge University in England were ranked second and third respectively.
