Heavyweight title holder Jan Blachowicz has defeated Israel Adesanya to retain his status by unanimous decision at UFC 259 in Las Vegas on Sunday.
Judges handed a unanimous decision with scores of 49-46, 49-45, and 49-45 in favour of the Polish champion, Jan Blachowicz (28-8).
Following the outcome of the fight, Adesanya (20-1) failed in his bid to become only the fifth fighter in UFC history to simultaneously become a two-weight champion.
Other fighters in UFC history to hold titles in two divisions simultaneously include, Conor McGregor, Daniel Cormier, Amanda Nunes, and Henry Cejudo.
Blachowicz and Adesanya were too careful not to make mistakes in the first three rounds.
However, Blachowicz powered his way with a dominant display in the fourth and fifth rounds of the bout.
