COVID-19: FG Meets Commissioners Over Sharing Of 3.9 Million Vaccine

The 36 commissioners for health in the country will on Thursday (today) meet the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, to decide on the most effective way of distributing the COVID-19 vaccine.

VANTAGE NEWS reported that four million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, shipped via the COVAX Facility, a partnership between CEPI, Gavi, UNICEF and WHO arrived Nigeria on Tuesday.

Nigeria became the third African country to benefit from the COVAX facility after Ghana and Ivory Coast.

COVAX is an international initiative involving the World Health Organization, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), GAVI and the international community, to get vaccines delivered to developing and poorer countries, in an affordable and fast manner.

Some commissioners of health met officials of the health ministry on Wednesday over the distribution of the vaccine, VANTAGE NEWS reports.

An official of the health ministry who confirmed the meeting to VANTAGE NEWS stated that all state health commissioners will be involved.
