Some Nigerians are outraged by the arrest of some #OccupyLekkiTollGate protesters at the Lekki toll gate in Lagos today (Saturday).
VANTAGE NEWS correspondents at the venue reports that the police are currently harassing and arresting anyone seen around the Lekki toll gate and suspected to be a part of the #OccupyLekkiTollGate protest group.
See reactions below:
Police are clamping down heavily on the few protesters that turned up. We saw some beaten with sticks and their posters confiscated. One young man who said he was an observer was taken away in a Black Maria. #Lekkitollgate

So the armed police and LCC staff at #LekkiTollGate are arresting anyone on sight whether you are a protester or not, straight into a Black Maria and moved to an unknown location. Whatever happened to the fundamental right of peaceful gathering?

Mr Macaroni will surely get released sooner or later cos he’s a public figure, my concern is for an average Nigerian who is not famous. Those are the ones that will be charged for crimes they never committed. 💔💔 #EndSARS #Lekkitollgate

Police are already beating, abusing & arresting protesters or passerby at the #Lekkitollgate as easily as 8am with the whole world watching, and this government want us to believe they had nothing to do with the massacre?? #EndSARS

Arresting people at the #Lekkitollgate will only make things worse. This government shouldn’t be this unfortunate! Why so desperate? Why not just give the masses what they want before they even hit the street? Why do you think intimidation is the best ? #EndSARS

Despite the fact that we all saw those heavy police personnel at the toll gate yesterday, people still showed up this morning, knowing they could be arrested, brutalised and even killed. If that does not tell you what you need to know, I don't know what else will.#Lekkitollgate
