The meeting between the Federal Government and the Joint Action Committee comprising the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU), has ended in a deadlock.
The non-academic unions had a meeting with the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, on Thursday in an attempt to resolve issues that led to the ongoing industrial action.
VANTAGE NEWS reports that at the meeting, Ngige described the strike as illegal, adding that it violates labour laws.
The non-academic staff are making demands such as the sharing formula for the academic earned allowance, unpaid earned allowances of members, delisting of members from the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System (IPPIS) and the arrears of the new minimum wage.
The unions had directed members across the country to embark on a strike last Friday in protest against the unresolved issues.
