A clash between commercial motorcyclists popularly known as okada riders and policemen at the Itire area of Lagos has led to the death of a man.
The yet-to-be-identified man was reportedly shot dead while another was injured on Saturday during the clash.
It was learnt that the unrest started after police operatives attached to the Itire police division seized motorcycles from two riders said to be Hausa around 8am.
The owners of the seized motorcycles were said to have reported the incident to their members who followed them to the police station on motorcycles to protest the seizure.
Police reportedly started firing at the crowd gathered at the station.
Various eyewitnesses confirmed that the police fired tear gas canisters to disperse the protesting okada riders.
The okada riders reportedly hurled stones at the policemen, who in turn replied with gunshots that led to the death of one person and inflicted serious injury on another.
