A 27-year-old man, Suleiman Ahmed has been convicted of rape by a State High Court sitting in Dutse, Jigawa State.
The court sentenced Ahmed to life imprisonment for raping an 11-year-old girl in an uncompleted building on March 15, 2021.
Public Relations Officer of the state Ministry of Justice, Zainab Baba Santali in a statement, said that the prosecution team led by the state Attorney-General, Musa Aliyu, prove beyond reasonable doubt that Ahmed, of Lutai village in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area of the state is guilty of the crime.
They presented four witnesses, including two of the girl’s friends who testified that they saw Ahmed taking her into the uncompleted building where they followed and saw him defiling the girl.
Ahmed had pleaded no guilty to the crime.
The trial judge, Musa Ubale, said the prosecution proved their case beyond reasonable doubt against the defendant and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
The court also sentenced another person it found guilty of the same crime to 21 years in jail as it equally discharged and acquitted another suspect.
