The meeting between the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngigie and the Joint Action Committee (JAC) comprising of Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities failed to yield positive results.

This is because the unions have insisted that there is no going back on the February 5 date which they said they would commence the nationwide industrial action.

Ngige met the non-teaching staff of universities on Tuesday in Abuja with the hope to settle issues with the non-teaching staff of universities who had embarked on a warning strike to protest against the poor management of the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information (IPPIS).

They are demanding that their members be taken off the IPPIS.

The unions are also protesting against the sharing formula for the N40 billion earned academic allowance, poor funding of universities among  other issues.

Although Ngige told journalists after the meeting that most issues raised by the unions have been addressed, leaders of the unions insist that most of their critical demands were not met.

The strike is expected to commence on Friday, February 5.
