No fewer than 20 persons have lost their lives in clashes between communities in Abia and Akwa Ibom States.

The communities are Usaka Ukwu and Azuncchai in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State and their Nkari neighbours of Ini and Oboto Akara LGA in Akwa Ibom State.

In a stakeholders meeting held on Monday, the Abia communities alleged that their Akwa Ibom counterpart has killed no fewer than 20 persons between May 2020 and January 2021.

Stakeholders present at the meeting include Ikwuano LGA Chairman, Steven Mpamaugo, traditional rulers, President Generals, Chairmen of Development Associations among others.

Usaka Ukwu people alleged that three of the army personnel who were deployed in the area to broker peace were attacked and wounded by their Akwa Ibom neighbours, alleging that the rifles and vehicle of the military personnel were also taken away.

One of the soldiers who was hospitalised after the attack allegedly died due to injuries sustained.

Stakeholders from Usaka Ukwu revealed that their Akwa Ibom neighbours have expansionist objective.

They claim that farming activities in the area had stopped due to fear of further attacks on the their people.

The President General of Usaka Ukwu, B.C Mgbaramuko pleaded with the National Boundary Commission to step in to properly delineate the original boundaries between the two states.

He also called on the Akwa Ibom Government to fully compensate the families of those killed during the attacks.

While asking the state Governor Okezie Ikpeazu to speedily settle boundary dispute with Akwa Ibom state, the people called for the establishment of police/military checkpoints at strategic spots in the area.
