
Tragedy struck in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State when a man, Chukwuemeka Obijiofor allegedly hit and killed his wife and only child with a shovel.
Obijiofor, 28, who committed the heinous crime on Tuesday, also attacked a vigilante man that attempted to rescue the victims.
In a statement, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohamjumed, said the bodies of the deceased victims have been deposited at the mortuary while the vigilante man is receiving treatment at the hospital.
The PPRO stated that the Commissioner of Police in the state, John Abang, had ordered the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, for a thorough investigation to be carried out.
The statement read, “On Tuesday at about 7.45pm, police operatives attached to Ozubulu Police Station arrested one Chukwuemeka Obijiofor aged 28 years, of Ofufe Nza village in Ekwusigo LGA of Anambra State.
“Suspect allegedly ran amok in circumstances yet to be ascertained and attacked his wife, one Chisom Chukwuemeka, aged 26 years, and own child, Amanda Chukwuemeka, aged 4 years, both of same address, with a shovel on their heads.
“Suspect equally used the same object and wounded a vigilante man who tried to rescue the victims.
“Police detectives visited the scene and rushed the victims to Joint Hospital, Ozubulu, for medical attention where the two victims were certified dead by a medical doctor on arrival.
“The wounded vigilante is responding to treatment, while the corpses of the victims were deposited at the hospital’s morgue for autopsy.”
