A former minister of aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has said that the unrest in Orlu, Imo State was caused by a clash between soldiers and members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

He called on Buhari to learn from past occurrences, adding that the soldiers should be sent to fight killer herdsmen.

ESN is a security outfit formed by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to guard the region.

The formation of the security outfit by IPOB that was proscribed by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government has since generated a lot of controversy.

VANTAGE NEWS reports that there is widespread rumour that Orlu is the operational base of the ESN.

There has been a few clashes between soldiers and members of IPOB in the area before Monday’s unrest that has allegedly led to the death of some persons.

In a tweet, Fani-Kayode said, “The clash between soldiers and members ESN in Orlu, Imo state today has resulted in some deaths & this is unfortunate. I call for restraint on both sides. The soldiers ought to be deployed against killer herdsmen and not ESN. When will Buhari learn. Chidera Agu please stay safe.”
