An article of impeachment has been introduced against United States President, Donald Trump by Democrats in the US House of Representatives.
The Democrats introduced the article on Monday, accusing Trump who has just eight days left in office of sedition.
Trump is accused of inciting his supporters to lay siege on the Capitol Hill to stop Joe Biden’s victory being certified.
The charge partly read, “President Trump gravely endangered the security of the United States and its institutions of government. He threatened the integrity of the democratic system, interfered with the peaceful transition of power, and imperiled a coequal branch of government.”
Vice President Mike Pence was also asked through a resolution by the Democrats to invoke the 25th Amendment and take powers away from Trump.
Republicans rejected the bill, leading to strong condemnation from House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi, who accused the Republicans of allowing Trump to get away with anything.
She accused them of complicity, noting that it endangers and erodes America’s democracy.
The House will vote on Tuesday (today) to decide over the bill.
If Trump is impeached, it will be the first time in history that an American President will be impeached twice by the House.
Recall that the House impeached Trump in December 2019.
