A Nigerian man, Emmanuel Akomafuwe, on Saturday, told the Lagos Judicial Panel on police brutality that he and his girlfriend called Adaugo were shot by the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) on April 13, 2019.

According to Akomafuwe, the incident which happened around 7 pm on the fateful day led to the death of his girlfriend.

Akomofuwe, told the panel that a police officer, Inspector Dan Ojo, shot him in the head and his girlfriend in the stomach and leg after an argument ensued when he sought to know why they were stopped.

He alleged that the six police men on the scene ran away and left them to their fate after the shooting.

Akomofuwe said, “The officers involved are living their lives. Some of them were arrested but they have been released. None of them have been punished,” he said.

“The news of the incident was published in the newspapers and after this, the commissioner of police promised to pay my hospital bills but this did not happen and the police never returned to visit.

“I did scans on my skull and brain at Reddington, and also checked in Dubai. My sanity hasn’t been the same since the incident and I still can’t sleep without pills.”

Akomofuwe added that he wants the panel to remind the Nigerian Police Force of his case and ensure that Inspector Dan Ojo is arrested and punished accordingly.

He also wants the police to fulfill its promise of footing his medical bills.

The police counsel admitted that the police became aware of the case recently, and asked for time enable them review the petition and track the officers involved.
