The Federal Government, on Wednesday, said that it has reached out to the United Kingdom over the threat by its parliament to impose sanctions on Nigeria and some government officials over the alleged shooting of unarmed and peaceful #EndSARS protesters.
The FG stated that the meeting held was for the parliamentarians in UK and does not totally represent the views of the UK government.
Speaking with State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting, the Minister of Foreign affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, said that it is important that the members of parliament get a balanced picture of all that happened.
Onyeama said, “We have reached out to the UK government. The meeting that took place was for parliamentarians and they don’t speak for UK government which acts for the United Kingdom, which has also heard the side of the (Nigerian) government regarding everything that happened.
“We have been engaging with them. And of course, as in any democracy, the members of parliament are able to also air their views.
“But what is important is that balanced picture is made available to them before they take any decision.”
