CNN has dared the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration by releasing a second report on the alleged shooting of unarmed and peaceful #EndSARS protesters by the Nigerian Army at Lekki tollgate on the night of October 20,2020.
This comes amid threats of sanctions by the Federal Government over the first report it aired on its channel.
Recall that the minister for Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, last Thursday, alleged that CNN relied on social media video without verification to produce its report, adding that it should earn CNN a serious sanction for “irresponsible reporting.”
However, CNN on Tuesday released a second report with footage showing soldiers shooting at unarmed protesters on the night of October 20, 2020 at Lekki tollgate in Lagos.
The new report also showed the Commander, 81 Division, Brig.Gen Ahmed Taiwo, informing the judicial panel of inquiry in Lagos that soldiers took live ammunition to the tollgate on the night.
The report, which also revealed that the Commander’s claims contradicts what Mohammed said last week that the army did not go to the tollgate with live ammunition, showed protesters running for their dear lives when the military started shooting.
The latest report puts more pressure on the government who are also currently under heavy scrutiny by the UK government and Amnesty International over what happened that night at the Lekki tollgate.
